The thrilling second issue of AC’s smashingly successful new FULL COLOR Femforce title, SUPERBABES; will be coming your way in October, 2019!!
Anyone who knows anthing about The FEMFORCE is aware of the fact that in addition to being intelligent, talented and supremely-skilled crimefighters, the team is made up of six beautiful, unique and glamorous women. SUPERBABES #2 will pit the Ms. VICTORY, NIGHTVEIL, SHE-CAT, SYNN, TARA and STARDUST against two of their most grotesque (not to mention dangerously powerful) distaff foes whose joining of forces MAY portend far worse villainy yet to come!!
WAMPYR came into the AC Universe as a vampire with great skills in the Black Arts, originally vanquished and destroyed millenia ago but accidentally reanimated and brought into the present by NIGHTVEIL herself. After a long, ongoing storyline (that culminated in the sold-out FEMFORCE #170), the simultaneous application of a magical spell of permanence AND the synesthrophic physical alteration of her skull left her with the body of a “normal” (albeit undead) woman and the head of a GIANT BEE! Subdued by the FF, she had been imprisoned at the enigmatic Colorado Complex while the technicians there studied her bizarre condition.
GORGANA actually predates AC Comics itself, having made her first appearance in THE VERY FIRST FEMFORCE story EVER PUBLISHED in Bill Black’s Paragon Publications’ Femzine #1, released in 1980. This bizarre , three-eyed creature with the ability to temporarily paralyze any male AND impersonate any female has been intermittently bedeviling NIGHTVEIL, The FEMFORCE team, and various and sundry members of the AC Universe ever since. Recently, a GORGANA scheme to siphon the energies of the FF’s ally FIREBEAM went afoul, which allowed the FF to pack HER off into protective custody at the Colorado Complex as well.
Can we be SUPRISED that these two gals, united by their hideous deformaties, antisocial tendancies and hatred of The FEMFORCE became FAST FRIENDS within the confines of the Colorado Complex Maximum Security Detention Center? Once they manage to break out and win their freedom, is anyone anywhere safe? Find out in SUPERBABES #2, in “Heads I Win, Tails You Ooze” written by Mark and Stephanie Heike, with art by Javier Lugo and Jeff Austin, and colors by Stephanie Heike.
As a special bonus (and a thank-you to all the loyal FF readers who bought SUPERBABES #1). Superbabes #2 will come with a special alternate cover offer. ‘Way back in the early 1990’s, a young artist did a few FEMFORCE stories for AC Comics. He also did a cover on spec; a huge and impressive oversized painting of the FF’s magical maiden, NIGHTVEIL. Due to the limits of printing technology (and budgetary considerations related to same) at the time, it was never used. AC comics and the young artist went in different directions, and drifted out of touch. In the intervening years, that artist came to have no small measure of success, not only in the world of comics , but on the covers of many other general interest and mass-market publications and commercial art applications world-wide. That artist’s name is Greg Horn, and Greg is allowing AC Comics to finally publish that NIGHTVEIL painting as an alternate cover to Superbabes #2.
Superbabes #2 will ship packed in a 4:1 ratio of standard Johannes Vick, Mark and Stephanie Heike FEMFORCE design A “regular” covers to special painted Greg Horn NIGHTVEIL design B “alternate”cover. That means that out of every FIVE copies of this book that are shipped, ONE will feature a special GREG HORN painted cover design at no extra cost!!. So if you want to be certain that you get a copy of the Greg Horn cover SUPERBABES #2, make sure your retailer orders FIVE COPIES of the issue, and have him set aside that alternate cover version for you.
Be sure to tell your retailer to order SUPERBABES#2 from the August 2019 issue of Diamond’s Previews catalog, for items shipping in October. SUPERBABES #2- great “good girl” art and superheroic action in FULL COLOR, digitally printed on glossy stock, for $5.95, from AC Comics.

Art by Jack Kamen, George Evans, Ralph Mayo and other greats!!
Special Notes: None

‘Way back in Men of Mystery #100, we did a special ALL-FEMALE compilation of costumed and super-types from the Golden Age of comics, and it proved quite popular with AC readers. As comprehenive and spectacular as it was, it still DIDN’T cover ALL of the 1940’s superheroines published by long-defunct comic houses, and that always bothered us. Even then, we knew we HAD to do another volume, covering the heroines we couldn’t fit in MOM #100. The time is NOW, and THIS is IT: Men of Mystery #113 is another special “Women of Mystery” issue, covering all the Golden Age heroines you’ve never heard of !!The PURPLE TIGRESS may sound (and even look) like a vine-swinging jungle girl, but she’s actually a caped, urban crimefighter that Fox Features introduced in the late 1940’s. while they were having success with characters like PHANTOM LADY and RULAH. Quality Comics churned out a bunch of high-end costumed super-doers AND “good girl” art characters, but there’s one with a lovely foot in BOTH genres that we’ll bet you never heard of- MARGO the MAGICIAN. You’ll see her exploits in MOM #113. The BLACK ORCHID ( the ORIGINAL one from the ’40’s, not to be confused with the later DC Comics heroine) was a vigilante glamor-girl that used a variety of plant-based chemical weapons to hold bad guys at bay, from one of the smaller publishers of the day, Continental. Among the many guises that the leggy MISS ESPIONAGE used was a string mask that appartently hid her identity (though little else) as she strutted through appearances in Power Comics in the latter 1040’s. DIANA the HUNTRESS was a distaff version of the mythological demi-god(des) come to Earth type, who used bow and arrow(among other things) to dispatch evil-doers in the back pages of The Yellowjacket, from the company that would eventually become Charlton. SPIDER-WOMAN was a one-shot from Harry “A” Chesler publications that appeared in Major Victory Comics #1. It turns out that SHE is more spider than woman. If you want to know what that means, buy MOM #113!! NELVANA was a major heroine in Canadian comic books, but made ONE appearance here in the ‘States in the first issue of a book called Super Duper. We’ll be reprinting that in this historic tome. MADAME STRANGE was- well, STRANGE; but a pretty interesting heroine who stalked through the pages of three issues of Great Comics in 1941. We have reprinted ONE MADAME STRANGE episode before; MOM #113 will contain the other two previously-unreprinted stories. We’ll also throw in a couple of obscure heroines we have also featured once or twice before, including another early episode of Hillman’s BLACK ANGEL, and Quality’s female “take” on The FACE, The SPIDER WIDOW. And, if we can locate some missing pages, we’ll also include MAGGA the MAGNIFICENT; a strange reworking of what was originally intended as a GREEN LAMA story that had the lead character “reshaped” into a super-powered, flying WOMAN in a green costume!! All that and more; 140 big black and white all-girl, all-heroine, full-story vintage reprints within a full-color cover. saddle stitched and standard size, for $29.95; Men of Mystery #113, from AC Comics, coming in September, 2019

Synopsis: Strong and glamorous women in action! FULL COLOR premiere of the new quarterly ongoing series!!! The FEMFORCE must deal with a mysterious crashed spacecraft. Are the occupants FRIEND or FOE? Find out in “Headhunter’s Wake”. Comicdom’s foremost all-female superteam in COLOR on glossy paper for the first time!!

Special Notes: None

AC’s new FULL COLOR ongoing series -SUPERBABES #1, starring The FEMFORCE is coming in July of 2019!! After almost TWO DECADES of doing black and white books exclusively, AC is venturing into COLOR COMIC BOOKS once again, with a new companion book to the long-running black and white FEMFORCE series and that is SUPERBABES. 32 pages, digital, printed on glossy coated-stock paper for a cover price of $5.95
Each issue of SUPERBABES will focus on the great heroines of AC Comics, starting with a FEMFORCE lead story, plus one or more backups starring individual FF members in solo action, and/or other (non-FEMFORCE member) AC heroines like STORMY TEMPEST, NYOKA, YANKEE GIRL, BLACK PHANTOM, MISS MASQUE and other guest-stars. This first issue features the two-part FEMFORCE saga, “Headhunter’s Wake”, an original FEMFORCE adventure written by Andrew Hawnt and illustrated by Javier Lugo and Jeff Austin. It brings the FF in conflict with mysterious visitors from outer space whose presence MAY threaten the safety of the Earth itself. When you see how the FF ends up dealing with the situation, we suspect you will be surprised!
FEMFORCE (One of the longest-running independent comic series of all time) chronicles the adventures of the super-team of Ms. VICTORY, NIGHTVEIL, SHE-CAT, SYNN, TARA FREMONT and STARDUST, and often focuses as much on the individual characters’ personal (and interpersonal) problems and foibles as it does their crimefighting exploits. FEMFORCE #1 debuted in 1985, and the next issue to ship (scheduled for August, 2019 release) will be #186.
The tried-and-true FEMFORCE concept was originated by AC Comic’s publisher Bill Black, and is currently overseen by EIC Mark G. Heike, an AC Comics editor since 1990, and Executive Editor Stephanie Heike, who has worked on the FF characters herself (as Stephanie Sanderson, back then) from 1991 to today. SUPERBABES #1’s “Headhunter’s Wake” story is the product of veteran creators as well. Having grown up reading the comic, scripter Andrew Hawnt has been writing FEMFORCE tales for AC since 2015. Dynamic penciler Javier Lugo drew his first FEMFORCE story for FF #150, back in 2009, and inker par excellance ( the man who maintains the consistent “look” of the cast) Jeff Austin started with AC on FEMFORCE #120, which was ‘way back in 2002! Jeff’s AC body of work is rapidly approaching 100 FEMFORCE stories, comprising nearly 1,000 pages of inked artwork!!
The SUPERBABES ongoing series will not affect the regular, 80-page black and white FEMFORCE quarterly, but is an additional FF- related titled added to the AC schedule. Although all stories in both books will be occuring (basically) in the same universe and timeline, there is no plan afoot to directly cross stories over from one title to the other.
SUPERBABES #1 issue will show off the quality and production values that will be going into this new series, the state-of-the-art full color printing on coated stock paper throughout the book. Technically, this is quite an upgrade from the standard AC approach to printing ( black and white interiors inside of color covers) from the last several decades. Backed up by AC’s 35-year record of on-time releases that shows the companies’ rock-solid reliability, jumping on board the new title with this big first issue will be a worthwhile long-term investment of time and interest (for the reader) as well as money (for the retailer).
If SUPERBABES can be a successful ongoing book for AC, that can (and will) lead to MORE full-color, standard-sized AC Comics spinning off from it. In addition to several more AC/FEMFORCE related books, we are currently in development on three other color titles. More information will be forthcoming on those projects as they approach a release date.
Be sure to tell your retailer to order Superbabes #1 from the May 2019 issue of Diamond’s Previews Catalog, for products shipping in July of 2019.

Special Notes: None

With Independence Day 2019 coming, what better to highlight than the star-spangled adventurers among the ranks of comic book super-types of the early 1940’s ? And where else to start that than with the ORIGINAL costumed symbol of the good ole’ US of A, UNCLE SAM himself? MOM #112 leads off with a spectacular Reed Crandall-drawn UNCLE SAM story, originally published in Quality Comics’ National #25. Keeping the parade going, Fawcett’s MINUTE MAN rings in with “Minute Man Meets The Mummy” from Master Comics #36, drawn by Phil Bard doing his best imitation of Jack Kirby. The seldom-seen duo of costumed vigilantes, YANK and DOODLE appear, as drawn by Paul Norris, out of Prize Comics #26. Then, a gripping CRIMEBUSTER epic from early in his career (Boy Comics #5), while he was still wearing his caped red-white-and-blue costume. And this issues’ MOM “debut” character is right in theme- it’s the flag-draped wonder known as MANOWAR, from Centaur Comics’ Man of War Comics #1. Most experts have credited this story to the prolific Paul Gustavson ( Gustavson’s son Terry has “confirmed” this, and Paul DID draw the characters initial story and the cover to #1), but we don’t belive that for a second. Looks like Al Avison to us. Read it here in MOM #112, and YOU decide. Mind you, if the patriotic types are not your bag, this issue has penty of other vintage treasures, including the AIRBOY story that introduced his sultry nemesis, Valkyrie. Hmmm… Airboy’s costume is mostly red and blue, too; isn’t it? Then, another story of The RED DEMON-“Double Trouble”, another previously-unseen installment of MARTAN the MARVEL MAN -this one frm Popular #52; SNIFFER and IRON JAW in “Oily Boid”, SPY SMASHER; the most OUTRAGEOUS “good girl art” jungle girl, Fox Features’ RULAH; a SECOND debut character- the mysterious CAT GIRL, plus several more surprises to amaze and delight. Besides the aforementioned, this issues’ artists include Charles Biro, Fred Kida, Bob Powell, Bil Draut, Emil Gershwin and others. 140 pages of crisp, full-story black and white reprints from comics’ Golden Age inside full-color covers. $29.95, standard comic book size and saddle-stitched. Coming from AC Comics in June, 2019.

Synopsis: Overview of all the tiny, undersized and size-changing heroes of the Golden Age, featuring classic reprint stories starring FLYMAN, MINIMIDGET, MIGHTY MAN, DOLLMAN, The LITTLE GIANT, BUZZ BALMER, RED COMET, The BLACK DWARF and other mighty mites of the 1940’s. Art by Crandall, Bryant, Cole, Glanzman, Zolnerowich and other greats.
Special Notes: None

These days, the ANT-MAN character is the star of major motion pictures, and The ATOM is on TV, but did you know that comicdom was populated with LOTS of tiny heroes, going all the way back to The Golden Age? Golden Age Spotlight #19, “Good Things Come In Small Packages” focuses on these little guys of comics’ formative years, from the great to the extremely obscure. One couldn’t do justice to a topic like this without mentioning Quality Comics’ star feature DOLLMAN, so he ( and Quality Comics’ staff of spectacularly-talented artists) will certainly be well-represented. Centaur Comics’ MINIMIDGET predated them all, and John Kolb’s feature (which debuted in September of 1939) had a respectible two-year run in Centaur’s flagship Amazing Man title. GAGSp#19 will contain one of his earliest adventures. Harvey Comics’ experimental pocket-sized comic, Spitfire introduced the world to FLYMAN. Stuck at insect-size AND with a face scarred by acid, this unique feature was the brainchild of Sam Glanzman and his older brother Louis. You’ll see his second appearance in this issue. BUZZ BALMER was an adventurer stuck at a tiny size whose stories were pretty weird. Produced by Rick Yager who was best-known as a newspaper strip artist, Buzz plied his trade within the pages of the little-seen Bang-Up Comics. There were a few GA heroes who could vary their size, and consequently spent a fair amount of time battling at small size. Among them were two reasonably successful heoes, Martin Filchock’s MIGHTY MAN ( who could actually control the size of specific PARTS of his body as well as change size proportionately-very freaky) and Fiction House’ early Planet Comics star, The RED COMET. Both will be in this issue showcasing their abilities as diminutive dynamos. Their were some 1940’s heroes that, while not actually MINIATURE, per se; were certainly undersized, and played that to their advantage. You’ll see them here, too. Like the extremely rare LITTLE GIANT, from O.K. Comics #1, Jack Coles gun-happy gumshoe LITTLE DYNAMITE, AND the Lev Gleason character of the same name; and Harry “A” Cheslers’ demented BLACK DWARF- they’ll all be here, and perhaps a few more suprises as well- all in Gloden Age Greats Spotlight Special #19, 140 pages of crisp, full-story black and white reprints from comics’ Golden Age inside full-color covers. $29.95, standard comic book size and saddle-stitched. Coming from AC Comics in May, 2019.

NIGHTVEIL returns to her quest for the Cloak of Darkness and stumbles upon a malevolent force instead, SHE-CAT must outwit an AI construct, and TARA’s Jungle Island faces a new threat.

If THE most renownd, supremely-powerful security force in all the realities came to select YOU as it’s newest member, that would be quite a compliment, right? But, if the “honor” was basically bestowed against your will AND turned you into an inhuman creature, it might not be such a great deal after all, and that’s the danger Ms. VICTORY faces in “March of the Etherium”; written by Andrew Hawnt with art by Javier Lugo and Jeff Austin, and it may take the combined effort of the rest of the FEMFORCE to keep Ms. V on Earth and among them. NIGHTVEIL’s loss of the awesome Cloak of Darkness has been her biggest regret and greatest shame, but when she finally is able to resume her search for it, her first step leads to a fearsome force of evil instead. Strange things have been happening on TARA FREMONT’s Jungle Island as of late, but when new hazards (both legal and otherwise) to control of the wildlife refuge come up, a full-time security monitor must be installed- but it WON’T be TARA herself!! And, when threats on the life of an unassuming software engineer baffle both him and the police, it’s up to SHE-CAT to figure out that the source is something non-human, in “One Shot”, scripted by Andrew Hawnt. Then, that interplanetary adventurer STORMY TEMPEST returns to face the fight of her life in “The Maze”, written by Mark Heike. All of these gripping adventures (featuring great art by AC regulars including Dave Matsuoka, Francesco Savi, Florentino Cuevas, Jeff Austin and others) and a few more surprises will be found in FEMFORCE #186; 80 pages of great black and white action and adventure inside of full-color covers, coming in April, 2019- $9.95 from AC Comics!!

As popular and ubiquitous as superheroes are in movies, television and media in general today, the great American cowboy was the most popular icon in entertainment during the period between the late 1940’s and mid-1960’s. Strapping on a pair of sixguns, sporting a ten-gallon hat and standing up for justice in the Old West was the romantic fantasy of the era. Virtually all of the range-riding stars of the day eventually got their own comic book series, many boasting long runs and impressive sales through the Mid-Century era. AC Comics WESTERN TREASURY recaptures that glory by presenting twelve of the best tales of that time in this big, 100-page third-issue. Thrill to the expoloits of ROY ROGERS, The DURANGO KID. JIMMY WAKELY, MONTE HALE, TOM MIX, Wild BILL ELLIOT and others, featuring the artwork of industry giants including Alex Toth, John Buscema, Joe Certa and more. The Western genre in comic books today is virtually defunct; check out these classics and see why it was huge in the pop culture world of 60 years ago. That’s Western Treasury Volume 3, 100 pages of top-quality reprints in black and white (with color covers) from AC Comics for $29.95, coming in March of 2019.

Another marvelous melange of monumentally mythic mystery men, that’s what’s in store in AC’s Men Of Mystery #111, coming in February 2019; headlined by a great, early adventure of Charles Biro’s groundbreaking (original) DAREDEVIL. Though entering the field as an artist, it’s as a writer and editor that Biro trully left his mark, as the approach he pioneered echoes decades later in the work of Stan Lee. The BLUE BEETLE is another character that has been reimagined multiple times since first appearing in 1939, this issue of MOM recounts on of his longer early tales from Fox Features’ Big 3 #7. CAPTAIN MIDNIGHT also had a long and storied career, not only in comics but also on radio, TV and in licensed products; see him here in a story from Captain Midnight #33, “Wolves In The Wilderness”. PYROMAN and DOC STRANGE ( from the Stanard/Nedor/Better/Pines group) have become popular reprint features in MOM in recent years, and this issue covers previously-unreprinted, feature-length stories of each, from Startling Comics #41 and America’s Best #3, respectively. SKYMAN was one of the best-drwan early costumed heroes thanks to the work of Ogden Whitney. The Gardner Fox-written, Whitney-drawn epic this issue will be “The Master Of Treachery”, from Skyman #1. The Ace Comics line has received little coverage (outside of MOM) by comics historians; this MOM carries a trio of hitherto-unseen Ace hero adventures starring BUCKSKIN, VULCAN and The BLACK SPIDER, all from Super-Mystery Volume 2 #2. We’ve only ever presented ONE other HOODED WASP story; MOM #11 will boast a second saga, as drawn by Jack Binder. Highlighting a “new” vintage superhero that has never previously appeared in Men Of Mystery has become somewhat of a tradition and MOM #111 delivers not one but TWO!! How about The RED DEMON ( a JUDGE who puts on a costume to fight crime in his off hours!!) and the ultra-rare origin of GREG GILDAY from Dell’s almost never seen 1940 comic book, War Comics #2!! Put it all together and it spells 140 pages of comic book costumed character history in black and white with color covers. Men of Mystery #111, standard comic-book sized, and saddle-stiched; $29.95 from AC Comics, coming in February 2019.
