Hopalong Cassidy and the Five Men of Evil Graphic Novel
An illustrated tale of murder and pursuit starring Clarence E. Mulford’s legendary adventurer of the Old West, this book spotlights both the newspaper comics and comic book careers of the 1950’s cowboy phenomenon known as Hopalong Cassisy. First, it’s one complete storyline from the 1953 edition of Hoppy’s newspaper strip, written by screenwriter Royal K. Cole, entitled “The Five Carver Brothers”. Beautifully rendered on toneboard by then-fledgling artist Dan Spiegle;althogh it was Spiegle’s first professional assignment out of art school, it showed a polish that portends well for his many years of great comics work to come. Then, it’s “The Signature Of Death”, a comic BOOK story from Hoppy’s Fawcett Comics run, illustrated by another future great, Doug Wildey. An introduction by Mike Royer, photo stills of William Boyd as Hoppy, and a text overview of “The Hopalong Phenomenon” by Bill Black rounds out the package. Color cardstock cover, interiors are black and white with graytones. 64 pages on glossy stock paper, squarebound trade paperback format. Printed in 1991. An officially authorized edition.
