Description

This is the actual, vintage Golden Age comic book published by Eastern Color Printing in March, 1945. This 64 page comic is complete, and in addition to it’s multiple “true life WW II features” and a reprint of the Flyin’ Jenny newspaper strip, it sports solo stories of two rare superheroes; Music Master and Hydroman (The Hydroman story guest-stars another Eastern Pubs hero, Rainbow Boy). The only artists of note in the book are Russel Keaton on the Flyin’ Jenny story and H. C. Keifer on the Hydroman/Rainbow Boy feature. I am not a professional comic grader, I am simply selling some comics out of my collection, so I’m going to list this books’ defects as best I can. Please check the photos that go with this listing for more details on it’s relative condition. The book is flat and tight, the supple cover has some gloss, but has quite a bit of wrinkling through it, denoting lots of previous folding, but very few of the wrinkles are “showing white”. Staples are solid, pulled slightly to the front, but with no discernable rust. There is a triangular piece of the cover missing at the top left corner, roughly 1/3″ X 1″, and some shallow (1/8″ or less) chewing or chipping at the top of the cover running to the top right corner. 1/2″ below the top right corner is an irregular 3/4″ X 1/4″ hole chewed ( by insects?) through the cover, but not the interiors. There are three 1/16″ – 1/8″ tears into the right side front cover, 6″, 7″ and 8 1/2″ down from the top. Along the bottom of the cover, there is a 3/4″ X 1/4″ irregular piece missing about 2″ in from the right side, a 1/8″ X 3/4″ piece missing right at the spine, and some irregular chewing through the cover surface ( though not all the way through the paper) over an area about 7/8″ in and 2″ up from the bottom right corner. The two extant cover corners (top and bottom right) are reasonably square. Also, their is some green magic marker staining around the “H” in the Heroic logo. The interior is flat and tight, with only minor paper browning. Therir is a bit of water-staining (about 1/2″ to 3/4″ down) at the top of the first three pages, plus a few random stains near the top on several pages near the middle of the book. Upper right corners have some slight (1/16″ X 1/8″ deep) creases on the first few pages, otherwise the outside corners of the interiors are pretty square. No other defects or markings visible on the interiors. Back cover has a 1/8″ square chip out of the left edge 3/4″ down, a 7/8″ tear about 5 1/2″ down, an irregular 2″ X 2″ piece missing along the cover bottom edge, and pieces missing at spine top and bottom equal to the ones listed missing on the front cover. A solid and affordable complete copy of a fairly rare book.
